Small Steps to a Healthier Lifestyle

Life gets busy. We have jobs, families, and other responsibilities to keep up with. We might not make it to the gym every day and some of our meals may be a bit less than healthy, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t learn to make better decisions. At Lady Fit, we believe that starting with some small, healthy changes can lead to better habits in the future. It’s all about getting started.

Drink Water

Drinking water helps keep you hydrated, but it also means that you aren’t drinking other liquids that contain sugar and calories. Drinking water regularly increases your metabolism and gives you more energy.

Don’t Skip Meals

To be healthy, you need to eat. Skipping meals reduces your calorie intake and you may even lose some weight as a result of it, but that doesn’t mean it’s healthy. Eating regular meals keeps your metabolism working and gives you the energy to get through the day. If your concern is losing weight, fill your plate with more veggies and lean proteins.

Take a Walk

Many of us have jobs that require us to sit for long periods and when you get home from a long shift, all you want to do is relax. We understand. But going for a walk is a great way to clear your mind after a long day. A walk is also a fantastic way to get your body up and moving in the morning. Walk in the morning or the evening, it doesn’t matter, as long as you’re getting up and moving a bit.

Cook at Home

Going out to eat, ordering in, or relying on frozen foods is convenient and enjoyable. However, those foods can be full of sugars, fats, and salt. Try cooking at home more often. You can start with just one dinner a week and work up from there. Cooking your meals will make you more conscious about what you put into your food and it can even be fun. No matter how much seasoning you add, it will almost always still have less sodium than a pre-made meal from the freezer section.

Eat Seafood

Seafood is a lean, delicious protein. Try eating seafood once a week in place of a meal you would normally enjoy with red meat. Instead of meatballs, next time, try throwing some shrimp into your pasta dish.

Eat Your Fruits and Veggies

We all know fruits and veggies are healthy, but it doesn’t mean we always remember to eat them. Try adding just one extra fruit or veggie each day into your diet. Instead of snacking from a bag, have a banana, apple, or pear. Remember veggies don’t always have to be a bland steamed side item that you force yourself to eat alongside your protein and carb. Sautee or oven roast those veggies, add them right into your dish, and let them soak up some sauce.
